MY ARTWORK - PAGE TWO

The next picture below is supposed to represent the light coming through the darkness, hence the name "Light Through Dark". Again, I inverted the original to create another image. I also decided it would be interesting to see this picture in landscape position.

This next picture is hardly my favourite. Perhaps it's because someone said it looked like a WATERMELON! I'm afraid, no, it is NOT a watermelon. In fact, it is supposed to represent my emotional self at the time of making the picture. I wanted to represent the disappointments I felt when it came to love relationships. That is why the colour scheme is pink-ish with black tear drops (NOT watermelon seeds!) I guess perhaps if I had drawn the typical heart representation, the idea would have been more clear. But of course I did not want to use a typical heart drawing, in fact, I wanted it to look closer to a real human heart, a human heart that was breaking with sorrow, disappointment, and -- pain. As you can see, the picture is called "Pain". It was what I felt at the time. I don't know how anyone can read the word "pain" on the picture and think of watermelon! Hmph!

This next picture like "Manifestation" is also inspired by my path as a Pagan/Wiccan. It is a colour scheme representation of the four elements - air, fire, water, and earth. The elements are positioned specifically according to their TRADITIONAL directional correspondences - air (east), fire, (south), water (west), and earth (north). Each element has three colours. Three represents the three traditional realms in occult philosophy - physical, mental, and spiritual. Therefore, each element has three colours traditional associated with it.

The next two pictures are deity inspired. The first, "Greeting Manannon", is inspired by the Celtic god of the sea, Manannon. The second, "Soaring", is inspired by the Celtic Morrigan, goddess of sex, war, and death.

For some reason, I had an image in my mind of people standing by an ocean-side awaiting the return of the god, Manannon. I tried to capture an image of people standing there waiting as if somehow drawn to the ocean where Manannon can be seen in the distance aboard a boat. (To this day, I haven't seen an ocean. Perhaps it is calling me...?) The center figure is the one calling Manannon to come forward. I also wanted to convey the Celtic idea of land, sea, and sky; hence the alternate title "Land, Sea, Sky". To the Celts, places where land, sea, and sky met were thought to be the most sacred. Dolphins are also depicted in the sea awaiting the return of Manannon.

"Soaring" did not start out as a picture inspired by Morrigan, at least not consciously. I started the picture out by drawing a circle turning it into a moon image, then I was inspired to draw the triangle. I was also inspired to show a contrast between day and night in the sky. At first, my feeling was to have the picture depicting a Wiccan Priestess "drawing down the moon"; however the shadow figure turned out to look more like a half women and half crow image. Crow is the animal associated with the goddess Morrigan and she is often thought of as a triple goddess, her aspects being sex, war, and death. So, I guess Morrigan decided to appear in my artwork in the best way she knew how - a dark, shadowy figure in the sky. (During war, Morrigan is said to shape-shift into a crow and fly over the battlefield, her caw signalling the death of someone important.)
